{"id":298568,"date":"2023-12-19T09:24:34","date_gmt":"2023-12-19T09:24:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportstoft.com\/?p=298568"},"modified":"2023-12-19T09:24:34","modified_gmt":"2023-12-19T09:24:34","slug":"nick-kyrgios-hits-boris-becker-with-insult-about-his-time-in-jail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportstoft.com\/tennis\/nick-kyrgios-hits-boris-becker-with-insult-about-his-time-in-jail\/","title":{"rendered":"Nick Kyrgios hits Boris Becker with insult about his time in jail"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1> Nick Kyrgios takes a savage swipe at Boris Becker about the tennis legend&#8217;s time in jail as the rivals&#8217; feud explodes again<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pair have been fighting for years<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Becker launched fresh attack on Kyrgios<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Aussie responded in savage fashion\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The long-running feud between polarising tennis star Nick Kyrgios and Boris Becker\u00a0has gone nuclear, with the Aussie bringing up the German\u00a0champion&#8217;s jail stint in their online war of words.<\/p>\n<p>The pair have been firing shots at each other since 2020 when Becker called Kyrgios a &#8216;rat&#8217; over his comments on fellow tennis professional\u00a0Alex Zverev during the Covid pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>That kicked off a lengthy stoush between the two, with Kyrgios calling him a &#8216;doughnut&#8217;\u00a0at one point.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Becker taunted Kyrgios again earlier in 2023, questioning whether he was\u00a0telling the truth about the knee injury\u00a0that ruined his Australian Open campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Kyrgios returned serve recently, saying that Becker and other greats of his era could not cut it in the modern game.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/19\/04\/79113859-12879791-image-a-67_1702960620087.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Kyrgios and Becker have been embroiled in a running feud for years and it has recently escalated once again<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/19\/04\/79113853-12879791-image-a-68_1702960624550.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Becker claims players from his decade established a tennis world where players like Kyrgios could enjoy fame and money even when they weren&#8217;t playing<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The game was so slow back then,&#8217; the 28-year-old said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I&#8217;ve watched Boris Becker and I&#8217;m not saying they weren&#8217;t good in their time, but to say that they would be just as good now, it&#8217;s absurd.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;A big serve back then was like 197 to 200[kmh]. People like me, we serve 220 consistently, to corners. It&#8217;s a whole different ball game.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>That clearly rattled the former world No.1, with the 56-year-old German launching a series of fresh attacks on Kyrgios.<\/p>\n<p>Becker says the past legends of the sport made it possible for the injured Aussie to make a living from tennis without playing all year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;You have to have respect for the past &amp; simply say &#8216;thank you&#8217; out loud that these old pros existed, because without them the tennis circus would no longer exist,&#8217; he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Kyrgios was having none of that, though, saying he earned his own fame while taking a pot shot at Becker&#8217;s criminal past.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Uhhh what? I\u2019ve been arguably one of the most watched players outside the big three the last decade?&#8217; Kyrgios posted on X.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Fans around the world and have brought so many more people to the sport. I\u2019ve created my own stuff off the court. Try to not hide any more assets x.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>That final line was a dig at Becker&#8217;s recent financial turmoil that led to his imprisonment in 2017.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The former tennis champion was sentenced to two and a half years&#8217; jail for charges related to hiding assets during his bankruptcy proceedings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/19\/04\/79113857-12879791-image-a-69_1702960629013.jpg\" height=\"480\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Becker was a former world No 1, but he squandered his fortune and was jailed for hiding assets<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/19\/04\/79113851-12879791-image-a-70_1702960631516.jpg\" height=\"418\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Kyrgios got personal, bringing up Beckers bankruptcy and consequent jail term as insults<\/p>\n<p>Kyrgios was not finished there. He shared another post with Becker&#8217;s comments with the caption &#8216;bro what&#8217; and a series of laughing emojis.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I\u2019ve been one of the FEW PLAYERS that have brought million more fans to the sport and have made more money for everyone,&#8217; he posted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;NETFLIX\u2026. Don\u2019t remember seeing Boris on there. Guy is ridiculous. I\u2019ve made my career off the court without the help of the others.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0That was not the end of the spray, with Kyrgios posting a third comment that seemed directed firmly at Becker.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Yuhhhh keeping talking ya s***, ya ain\u2019t relevant no more chumps,&#8217;
