Jake Paul claims KSI is chasing viewers over legacy with latest stunt

Jake Paul claims he is ‘humbled’ by KSI trying to ‘ruin’ his fight with Andre August, insisting it proves ‘how deep I am in his head’… as he accuses his YouTube rival of chasing viewers over legacy

  • KSI is set to live stream a sparring match during Jake Paul’s fight tonight
  • Paul thinks KSI trying to sabotage his fight show he is deep in his rival’s head

Jake Paul believes KSI trying to sabotage his viewing figures for tonight’s boxing match against Andre August shows the YouTube rivals are on very different paths in the sport.

Paul is due to step into the professional ring for the ninth time to take on August in Orlando, Florida, but KSI has decided to put on a free live stream of a sparring session with YouTube sensation IShowSpeed at the same time, which could affect the number of people that watch Paul’s fight.

Many see the move as a way for KSI to get under Paul’s skin, but the American insists it hasn’t worked.

Both men have lost to Tommy Fury this year, but Paul is adamant he still wants to go to the very top and help other fighters achieve their dreams, while he doesn’t believe KSI has the same ambition.

‘We’re chasing two different things,’ Paul told Mail Sport. ‘He’s chasing viewership and I’m chasing legacy, being cemented in the history books forever.

Paul believes it is a clear sign KSI is only interested in getting viewers while he is ‘chasing legacy’

‘Respect, being on the cover of Sports Illustrated, having my own boxing documentary, making Amanda Serrano the highest paid women’s fighter of all time, Shadasia Green up next.

‘Signing real fighters, real world champions, $250m in pay-per-view revenue generated, versus, he can get millions of views on his sparring match, all kudos to him.

‘When I’m 30 years old like he is, I want to have belts not views. And that’s the difference in these two mindsets.’

Paul has called for a fight with KSI in the past to settle his differences with the Brit, but they are yet to meet inside the squared circle.

He is adamant that he still wants to go on and win titles himself, despite losing to Tommy Fury earlier this year

He now feels KSI is determined to ‘ruin’ his latest fight with his own live stream, but believes it is not a smart business strategy as he will be the one making millions of dollars on the night, while claiming fans will still find a way to watch both events.

The 26-year-old is ‘humbled’ that KSI cares so much about jeopardising his viewing figures.

Yet he insists the plan has backfired and actually drummed up more interest, and feels KSI’s latest stunt is a sign that he is deep inside his rival’s head.

‘It’s funny that he’s so pressed by me to try to come and ruin an event, but really all it did was create more marketing for it, more hype around it, more talk about it,’ Paul added.

‘And people have two screens, they’re definitely going to watch both. It’s a missed business opportunity for him.

‘I’m making millions of dollars for this fight while he’s doing a free live stream to prove what? I’m humbled by it at the end of the day.

‘He’s just flattering me showing how deep I am in his head and I hope his live stream gets tons of views.

‘I hope it gets more live streams than mine and he can go to sleep happy at night and smile and accomplish all his dreams of getting views.’
