Alejandro Garnacho’s thoughts on Man Utd potentially sacking Ten Hag are clear

‘I am very proud of this team’ | Erik ten Hag reviews Man Utd’s 0-0 draw at Liverpool

Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho has publicly given Erik ten Hag a vote of confidence by liking a post in support of the Dutch manager. Reports are circulating that the ex-Ajax boss could be one of the first on the chopping block at Old Trafford once Sir Jim Ratcliffe has acquired a 25 per cent stake in the club.

United have endured a shaky start to the season, sitting in seventh place in the Premier League table after winning only nine of their opening 17 matches and losing seven. Plenty of the Red Devils’ performances have not instilled confidence in supporters, with key players – such as Casemiro and Marcus Rashford – markedly underperforming.

Ten Hag was able to rally his troops over the weekend though as his side held out for a surprise 0-0 draw at Anfield against high-flying rivals Liverpool. It was a display that indicated that some members of the squad are willing to still fight for their manager.

Garnacho was among those to give their all on Merseyside, working hard to track back and help Luke Shaw at left-back. The Argentina international also had the opportunity to steal all three points for his side before a last-ditch tackle from Trent Alexander-Arnold prevented him from getting his shot away.

United’s performance has put talk of sacking Ten Hag on pause for the moment, and Garnacho’s X (formerly Twitter) activity suggests that he does not want the higher powers at the Theatre of Dreams to consider a managerial switch. The winger liked a post suggesting that the Red Devils must continue to commit to his boss’ project and how the club would reap the benefits in the future.

The tweet highlighted how Jurgen Klopp did not enjoy major success in his first three seasons with Liverpool, and Arsenal also persevered with Mikel Arteta despite three underwhelming campaigns – although he won the FA Cup while the Reds reached the Champions League final in Klopp’s third term having also contested Carabao Cup and Europa League finals before that.

Ten Hag led United to a third-place finish in the Premier League in his debut campaign in England, as well as a Carabao Cup triumph and an FA Cup final.

Graham Potter is among those shortlisted as potential Ten Hag replacements if the Glazers and Ratcliffe opt to ignore the pleas of their players, with the Englishman keen to return to management after his disastrous stint with Chelsea.

The appointment could see Potter link up with Dan Ashworth at Old Trafford, who he worked closely with at Brighton and is very highly regarded by Ratcliffe, who would like to lure him away from Newcastle in 2024.

But Garnacho is clearly eager for United to keep the faith in Ten Hag. And he’ll be fighting to ensure results improve in order to convince the board not to axe his manager.
