Arsenal star Ramsdale faces frosty reception at new club as transfer sounded out

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is reportedly a January transfer target for Wolves. However, he could face a frosty reception from the Molineux faithful if he completes a return to the Midlands.

Ramsdale made his first Premier League appearance in almost three months yesterday as Arsenal made the trip across London to Brentford. But he was only in the team because David Raya was ineligible to play against his parent club.

Mikel Arteta is likely to bring Raya straight back in for Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Lens. Ramsdale has played second fiddle to the Spaniard of late and has been linked with a move away from the Emirates.

Chelsea had been touted as a potential destination for the England international. However, Wolves are now reported to be in the mix to sign him.

Daily Star Sunday claims that Wolves are sounding Arsenal out ahead of a potential raid on Ramsdale. It is said that Gary O’Neil expects to lose Jose Sa in January, with clubs from the Saudi Pro League interested in the Portugal international.

Wolves have slapped a £35million asking price on Sa and are confident he will be on his way. O’Neil will need to replace the 30-year-old and Ramsdale is being earmarked.

However, he may have some making up to do with the Wolves fans. According to football.london, Ramsdale mocked Wolves during Arsenal’s 5-0 win over them on the final day of last season.

While Arsenal celebrated a goal at one end, Ramsdale bounced up and down, towards the visiting supporters. The 25-year-old pumped his arms in a style known well to Wolves fans, as it is often adopted by their black country rivals West Brom.

Ramsdale had only just signed a new contract at Arsenal at the time following a successful season between the sticks. Little did he know that a few months later he would lose his No 1 spot.

Ramsdale has remained in Gareth Southgate’s England squad to date, but the Three Lions boss has warned him he must find regular game time soon. He is said to be willing to fight for his spot at Arsenal but Wolves could tempt the Stoke-on-Trent-born star back to the Midlands in January.

When asked specifically about Ramsdale’s international prospects, Arteta said he will do all he can to help each member of his squad. He said: “My job is to try to help every single player in the best possible way every single day to make them better, to give them the best possible chance to fulfil their potential in their career and get to the highest level they possibly can, with no exception in any position or player.”
