  • Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Pavard is hopeful of signing for the Italian side

Manchester United have suffered a blow as Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel confirmed that Benjamin Pavard wants to join Inter Milan.

Pavard was left out of Bayern Munich’s squad for their clash with Augsburg on Sunday evening.

The French World Cup winner, who is a target for both Manchester United and Inter Milan, had missed training earlier this week with illness.

However, as per Fabrizio Romano, Tuchel confirmed why Pavard missed the game while also admitting that the defender wants to join Inter Milan.

The former Chelsea boss said: ‘He has some problems so he’s not with the squad. We understand Benji wants to join Inter but to complete a transfer, there’s not only one way to consider.

‘We need to find a replacement or it won’t happen.’

A deal is yet to be agreed, but reports in La Gazzetta dello Sport suggest Inter have increased their offer for Pavard and are confident of getting a deal done.

Man United had been heavily linked with a move for the fullback, who won the World Cup with France in 2018.

However, it appears that Erik ten Hag’s side have fallen behind in the race and may miss out to Simone Inzaghi’s side.

Pavard has just a year remaining on his contract at Bayern, so this is the last opportunity for the German club to get a significant transfer fee.

Having commenced his senior career at Lille, Pavard signed for Stuttgart in 2016 prior to joining Bayern Munich in 2019.

Pavard has made 163 appearances for Bayern and has scored 12 goals, while he has provided 12 assists.

He won the Champions League in 2020 and has won the Bundesliga title on three occasions.

Bayern Munich beat Augsburg 3-1 with Harry Kane scoring twice on his home debut for the club.
