Man Utd ace Amrabat shuts down Liverpool transfer talk and teases permanent move

Sofyan Amrabat has shut down any talk he could have joined Liverpool in the summer. The Morroco international has revealed he only wanted to sign for Manchester United amid reports he was close to moving to Anfield.

Amrabat finally joined United on loan from Fiorentina on deadline day. He was linked with a move to Old Trafford for much of the summer transfer window.

His performances at the World Cup in Qatar last year also attracted interest from Barcelona in January. Barca did not push through with their interest at the end of last season and United moved to the front of the queue.

But Liverpool were also keen on the 27-year-old. The Mail reported this week that Amrabat was ‘hours away’ from signing for the Reds.

However, a delay on Amrabat’s side saw Jurgen Klopp push through with a deal for Ryan Gravenberch instead. Amrabat admitted it was a difficult couple of months as he tried to sort out his future.

But he claims United were always his priority. He said: “Yes, of course [it was difficult]. After the last game with the club, it was the Conference League final with West Ham and from that moment, the window started for me.

“A lot of clubs, a lot of speaking, talking, but for me it was clear I wanted Manchester United. It was long, long months for me, difficult months for me, but at the end it’s nice on the last day that I signed here and that I’m here is now the most important (thing).”

United paid Fiorentina a loan fee of around £8.6m to sign Amrabat. They will have the option to buy him at the end of the season for a further £17m.

Amrabat isn’t focusing on a permanent switch just yet but has admitted he would like to stay beyond the loan agreement. He said: “I don’t think about that. For me, today, I am a Manchester United player.

“The only thing I can do is every day to give everything that I have, to do my best, to try to help the team. I hope we have a fantastic season, I hope we can win something and then later we will see what will happen.

“Of course, I would love to stay here, but that’s not important for me. I don’t look too far into the future.”
