On loan Southampton strker Paul Onuachu channelled his inner Zlatan Ibrahimovic to score a sensational acrobatic volley to secure a 2-1 win for Turkish side Trabzonspor.

Onuachu joined Trabzonspor in September after failing to register a goal or assist for Saints.

The six-foot-six inch striker was signed from Belgian side Genk for £18m by former Saints boss Nathan Jones, but failed to make any impact on the south coast.

With current Southampton boss Russell Martin signing Ross Stewart from Sunderland and retaining the services of Che Adams, Onuachu was permitted to leave the club.

Since then Onuachu has thrived scoring six goals in eight games, and has just struck a brace in Trabzonspor’s 2-1 win over Konyaspor, including an incredible winning effort.

Paul Onuachu squeezed between two Konyaspor defenders to brilliantly backheel in a finish

The striker wheeled away to celebrate after his goal secured an excellent win for Trabzonspor

The Nigerian striker opened the scoring for Trabzonspor but it was his second goal that stole the show.

The ball was crossed Onuachu in the middle of the area, and the striker managed to pull his leg up to chest high and backheel and incredible volley past goalkeeper Paul Bernardoni.

Onuachu wheels away in celebration and delivered a brilliant backflipping celebration after the wonder goal.

Comparisons can be drawn with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s equally brilliant backheel he scored for Sweden during their Euro 2004 game against Italy.

Ibrahimovic scored Sweden’s only goal of the game in a 1-1 draw with the Italians, and he leaped above Gianluigi Buffon to slot home.

Both players are tall and athletic, however Onuachu has a way to go if he wants to continue getting comparisons to one of the world’s best strikers in recent years.
