The Premier League has decided Bournemouth and Luton Town will replay their fixture in full at some point during the season.

Their clash in the last game-week was abandoned in the 65th minute after Luton midfielder Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch. The Hatters' captain, 29, suffered a cardiac arrest in the second half, less than one year after he was stretchered off the pitch at Wembley Stadium, after suffering a similar heart-related issue in the Play-Off final.

At the time, the score was 1-1 on the South Coast with Luton's Elijah Adebayo opening the scoring after three minutes, before Dominic Solanke equalised for the home side. However, the Premier League have since confirmed fans will see the match play out in full.

A statement from the division read: "Following the on-field medical emergency involving Luton Town FC player Tom Lockyer, the Premier League Board has decided last Saturday’s AFC Bournemouth v Luton Town FC fixture will be replayed in full. The game will be rescheduled for later in the season, with a date to be confirmed following consultation with relevant parties.

"The decision to abandon the match in the 59th minute was made collectively between the match officials, players, managers from both clubs and the Premier League. The League would like to thank the medical staff and all those involved for their swift actions in responding to what was an extremely upsetting situation for everyone. We wish Tom a continued recovery and our thoughts are with him, his family and all those at Luton Town FC."

Luton also took to their social media page to issue a message of their own, which read: "The Premier League Board has decided that last Saturday’s fixture with AFC Bournemouth will be replayed in full.

"The game will be rescheduled for later in the season, with a date to be confirmed following consultation with relevant parties. The Luton Town ticket office would like to add that ticketing information regarding the rearranged game will be announced in due course."

As he was taken off the pitch on a stretcher, Lockyer was described as being "alert and responsive" by the Bournemouth club doctor. Lockyer underwent heart surgery in the summer to help address an irregular heartbeat.

Luton play host to Newcastle United on December 23, before travelling to Sheffield United on Boxing Day.
