Trio of clubs ‘ready to sue Everton for £300m’ following 10-point deduction

Burnley, Leeds and Leicester have confirmed they are set to sue Everton for £300million after the Toffees were slapped with a 10-point deduction on Friday afternoon.

The findings from an independent commission, who heard the case over the club’s alleged breach of profit and sustainability rules, were published and the huge sanction has been handed out.

And, according to the Daily Mail, the trio of clubs have already penned a letter to the Premier League announcing their intention to sue. Leeds and Leicester were relegated to the Championship last season, while Burnley went down the season beforehand.

The trio of sides are furious that the case was not dealt with last season – and the guilty verdict has only infuriated the teams more. Everton would have been relegated for the past two seasons if the verdict was given then.

And the prospect of legal action from the three sides could be another significant blow to the planned takeover from American investment firm 777 Partners.

Everton recorded losses of £371.8m over the previous three years and have vowed to fight the points deduction. In a statement, they said: "Everton Football Club is both shocked and disappointed by the ruling of the Premier League’s Commission.

"The club believes that the Commission has imposed a wholly disproportionate and unjust sporting sanction. The club has already communicated its intention to appeal the decision to the Premier League."

The Toffees have now dropped into the relegation zone due to the points deduction, which leaves them only above rock-bottom Burnley on goal difference in 19th spot on four points with 12 games played.
