Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy announce lengthy TGL delay due to dramatic venue collapse
Ludvig Aberg may have only been on the PGA Tour for six months but he has already got rival golfers worried about what he can go on to achieve. The 24-year-old Swede has made the type of arrival in elite golf that is making people sit up and take notice, with comparisons to the impact that Tiger Woods first made already in circulation.
In November Aberg claimed his maiden PGA Tour title by winning the RSM Classic. He finished 29 under par after shooting back-to-back rounds of 61 over the last two days’ play. Such an incredible performance by a rookie competitor has not gone unnoticed by his peers as an alleged conversation between two other PGA golfers can testify.
During Aberg’s stunning victory at the Sea Island Golf Course in Georgia, PGA Tour Editorial Lead Sean Martin revealed on social media what rivals had been saying about the Swede.
Martin wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “A (real) conversation between two TOUR winners at Starbucks this morning: Player 1: ‘There is no world where we’d be able to beat Ludvig on a consistent basis.”
“Player 2: ‘I didn’t really know who he was. After playing 6 holes with him, I thought he was the next f—ing Tiger Woods.'”
Aberg’s tour title success might have been his first on the PGA Tour but has already notched significant achievements since turning professional in June 2023.
With Luke Donald challenging him to see if he could make it into Europe’s Ryder Cup team on a wildcard berth, Aberg returned to Europe to play in some DP World Tour events. After finishing fourth in his first event he then recorded his first win as a professional golfer at the European Masters.
It was enough to convince Donald that he should include Aberg in his team at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, handing him a wildcard berth ahead of top European player Adrian Meronk despite having never played in a single major – the first player ever to do so.

Aberg did not let his team down, remaining undefeated in four matches over the three-day event, winning two and drawing two.
His maiden PGA Tour win at the RSM Classic has moved him up to 32nd in the world rankings and he is still yet to play in a major. That moment will likely arrive next April when barring injury, he will almost certainly be part of the field at Agusta National that will compete for The Masters.
All-time great Woods has won the Green Jacket on five occasions but there is every chance that Aberg could be trying it on for size at the first attempt.
