More than five years since his sire lit up the juvenile scene as a leading sprinter, debutant three-year-old Written Silk looks ready to take his own first steps.

Tackling a very competitive Maiden Plate for the boys over 1150m at Tuesday’s feature Newcastle meeting on the Beaumont track, Written Silk arrives with an air of excitement from two recent Rosehill trials over 900m.

Both times he finished within a whisker of the winner, but the latest was ultra-impressive in more ways than one.

Having settled a long way back and covering ground, Written Silk trucked home under a nice hold, making up many lengths from the 300m, and still had something in reserve.

It was the work of a youngster who seemingly has inherited plenty of high-octane finishing power from his group 1-winning father.

Back in the summer of 2018 as a two-year-old, Written By exploded away to win the group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield after claiming a pair of group 3 wins in the lead-up.

Written By had only 11 career starts, winning six, before heading to stud.

Now, his latest gelded son Written Silk, who is out of a Snitzel mare, debuts for the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou yard.

In what looms as a typical early prep provincial raid by metropolitan trainers, the depth of this clash could well be a feast for form analysts down the track.

Lining up is exciting colt Head Of The Herd for the Waterhouse-Bott stable at Randwick, although he has also been accepted for Rosehill on Wednesday.

Representing the local charge is the leading provincial stable of Kris Lees who debuts impressive I Am Invincible colt Invincible Whip behind two easy trials up to 1000m.
