SPOTY LIVE as Earps, Broad and Dettori battle for famous BBC gong

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year award for 2023 is set to be decided, with England goalkeeper Mary Earps a huge favourite to scoop the prestigious honour. Another frantic year of sport is set to be marked, for what will be the 70th anniversary of the annual awards ceremony. The nominees are cricketer Stuart Broad, jockey Frankie Dettori, footballer Mary Earps, wheelchair tennis player Alfie Hewett, athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson and golfer Rory McIlroy.

Hosted by the BBC, Gabby Logan, Alex Scott, Gary Lineker and Clare Balding will present proceedings as the public discover who is the cream of the sporting crop for the calendar year.

The main award – voted for by the public – will be presented just before 9pm, with an array of sporting superstars past and present packing into the ceremony hall to mark the occasion. Votes can be cast online via the BBC.

Other awards on offer for the evening include; the World Sport Star of the Year award, the Helen Rollason award, the Young Sports Personality of the Year award, Unsung Hero of the Year, Coach of the Year, Team of the Year and the famed Lifetime Achievement award.
