Haas team principal Guenther Steiner is set to make a shock move into the comedy industry with American production company CBS already working towards a new workplace comedy starring the 58-year-old.
According to a report from Hollywood news outlet Deadline, CBS is in the early stages of development for the project, although extensive details are not yet known to the public. Steiner will work as a non-writing executive producer on the series, as well as star in it.
There are currently no writers or studios attached to the project, but Deadline’s report does reveal that the show will be a single-camera workplace comedy. While it is likely that this will involve behind-the-scenes access with the Haas F1 operation, this has not been confirmed.
This will come as excellent news for Steiner’s adoring fan base. The Haas team principal became essentially the star of Netflix’s Drive to Survive series, alongside Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo, with fans appreciating the Italian-American’s sweary rants and no-punches-pulled attitude to handling his drivers.

So considerable was the impact of Drive to Survive on Steiner, that he released his own book earlier this season. Titled ‘Surviving to Drive: A Year Inside Formula 1’, it tells the story of working from inside the paddock as an under-pressure team principal.
Despite the glory and popularity that comes with his newfound fame, there have been some drawbacks in Steiner’s eyes. He discussed the impact that this has had on his race weekends in an interview with talkSPORT earlier this season.
“It is a little bit more difficult because you want to give the fans something back when they recognise you,” he explained. “I’m not arrogant, you stop and you take a picture and so on.

“If you want to avoid them, you just don’t go there. You find another way out. But if fans are around and want a picture or an autograph, I give it. But you need to think more [about] where and when you move.”
While his newly-revealed comedy show will be a new source of excitement for Steiner, there has been little to enjoy on track for Haas recently. The sport’s only American team have scored points in just one of the last 16 Grands Prix and will need to score at least five in Abu Dhabi to avoid ending the season in 10th place.
