Rugby World Cup: Preview of the home nations' fixtures this weekend
Ireland star Mack Hansen looked gutted as he apologised to viewers after swearing during his post-match interview with ITV on Saturday night. The winger was Ireland’s only try scorer at the Stade de France in Paris as his country defeated South Africa 13-8 at the Rugby World Cup.
Hansen was in fine form for Andy Farrell’s side as he started for the second match in a row and crossed the whitewash seven minutes before half time to hand his team a 7-3 lead at the break. South Africa hit back in the second period as Cheslin Kolbe went over for a try to nudge the reigning champions ahead. But Ireland went on to claim victory thanks to the boot of Jonny Sexton and Jack Crowley.
Hansen was clearly on cloud nine as he gave his reaction to the famous victory. And the 25-year-old said: “It was pretty much like a Grand Slam on steroids out there. It was crazy. It said there were 80,000, it seemed like there were f***ing 800,000.”
Hansen was stunned that he had let a swear word slip out of his mouth and immediately put his hand over his mouth in shock as he apologised to viewers. “Ohh pardon, pardon again,” he exclaimed. “Damn. It seemed like there were 800,000. I swore, sorry.”

The ace then went on to laud the fans for their support on the night as he added. “It was incredible. And we needed every single one of them out there tonight to get that job done against a really good South African team. They’re just so big and physical and they still showed up tonight. And it was definitely the fans that got us over there.”
Incredibly, it isn’t the first time Hansen has sworn in a television interview. After the ace was named player of the match following Ireland’s Guinness Six Nations victory over Italy in February he was in the middle of an interview when he accidentally knocked the microphone. And he instinctively blurted out, ‘oh f***”, before exclaiming: “Pardon, pardon, pardon.”

Saturday’s victory means Ireland are now four points clear of South Africa at the top of the Pool B table. Farrell’s side have already defeated Romania and Tonga in the tournament and will be confident of qualifying for the quarter-finals as pool winners ahead of their showdown with Scotland on Saturday, October 7.
South Arica, meanwhile, are still firmly in the driving seat to progress to the knockout stages after winning their first two matches of the tournament, with pool rivals Scotland, Tonga and Romania all failing to pick up a point so far.
