Former Arsenal favourite Alexis Sanchez makes sensational return to Inter Milan after successful one-year stint in France with Marseille

  • Alexis Sanchez has re-signed for Inter Milan after leaving the club in 2022
  • The Chilean international enjoyed a successful spell at Marseille last season
  • He won both the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia in his last stint at Inter

Alexis Sanchez has returned to Inter Milan after spending a solitary season with Ligue 1 side Marseille in France.

Sanchez, who has signed a one-year deal to return to Italy, left Inter in the summer of 2022.

However, after scoring 18 goals in 44 appearances last season, the Nerazzuri have opted to bring him back to the San Siro.

The Chilean forward found the net 20 times and provided 23 assists during his first spell at Inter, winning the Serie A title and a Coppa Italia in the process.

Even though he regularly featured as a substitute during Antonio Conte’s time as Inter boss, Sanchez was still a key part of the team’s success.

The past few years have seen the former Arsenal and Manchester United man reinvigorate his career after a difficult end to his time in England.

Sanchez scored just one Premier League goal in his final season at Old Trafford, encouraging Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to allow him to join Inter on loan in 2019.

The 34-year-old was on a reported weekly wage of £560,000 a week during his underwhelming spell at Old Trafford, leaving United feeling short changed after his impressive goal-scoring form for Premier League rivals Arsenal.

After arriving at the Emirates from Barcelona for a fee of £30million in 2014, Sanchez went on to notch 80 goals in 166 appearances for Arsenal.

But he struggled to find form after moving to Manchester United in January 2018

He became a fans’ favourite in north London before moving to United in a swap deal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move the other way.

Now back to his best on the continent, Sanchez will be hoping he can help Inter reclaim the Serie A title.

Last season’s beaten Champions League finalists have also recruited Marcus Thuram, Juan Cuadrado and Marko Arnautovic this summer.

Simone Inzaghi’s side got their league season off to a strong start with a 2-0 home victory against Monza last weekend.
