Arsenal’s U18 side faced a bizarre situation on Saturday that led to their match against Brighton being postponed after their team coach ended up in Bournemouth. The Gunners youth team, managed by Jack Wilshere, were set to arrive at the Amex Stadium with kick-off scheduled for 12pm.
But kick-off was delayed by 30 minutes when Arsenal failed to show up on time.
It was later revealed that the delay was caused by Arsenal’s team coach taking a wrong turn and ending up in Bournemouth.
The location is more than a two-hour drive away with 95 miles between the two areas.
That ultimately led the game to being called off with the fixture set to be replayed at a later date.
Arsenal’s U18 side were on a three-match unbeaten run heading into their fixture against Brighton. They sit seventh in the table having won three of their opening eight matches.
Wilshere returned to his boyhood club last summer to take charge of the academy side and spoke of his pride in taking up the role. “A big part of my life was spent in the academy, and they were some of the best days of my life,” he said.

“My coach back then was Steve Bould and to walk in the footsteps of people like that is a massive honour. It’s a big opportunity for me.
“Still being relatively young, I didn’t expect my playing days to be done at this age, but when you get an opportunity like this given to you, it’s hard to turn down. Per [Mertesacker], Luke [Hobbs] and the whole of the club have been amazing. They’ve shown confidence in me, and I’m really happy and excited for the new chapter.
“It’s a special feeling to be part of the Arsenal family. It never left me, and even though I moved on for a few years, my heart was always still at Arsenal. When I think of a family, family is always there for you no matter what. Even if you leave, the door is always open and I always felt that when I came back here.”
