Barton says Football Focus has been destroyed by ‘the tokens’ in latest rant

Joey Barton has now taken aim at Football Focus – fuming it was destroyed by 'the tokens' in his latest rant.

Barton hit headlines last week when he took to social media to suggest women should not comment on men's football as it's a "different game". On Saturday, Barton shared on X: "36 minutes. Football Focus turned off. Sorry, Its just terrible.

"Drivel and nonsense served with a side of boring. No wonder it’s getting canned. Well done to all involved. Another flagship destroyed by The Tokens."

Barton had already shared his opinion on A Question of Sport being axed by the BBC on Friday. He said: "'Wokeness' Killed it. Poor quality guests. Standards dropped. "So sad to watch it slowly deteriorate. It was essential viewing as a kid who loved sports. Just like Soccer AM.

"I’m hearing they’re about to do for Football Focus next? @AlexScott? Hopefully not. Definitely, someone can make it work online. Won’t be long."

Earlier this year, there were reports Football Focus had suffered a massive drop off in viewership – from 849,000 in 2019 to just 564,000 at the start of this season. The sudden drop in viewership coincides with Dan Walker being replaced by Alex Scott as host.

Scott was vocal about Barton's comments surrounding women in football last week. And signing off from coverage of the Women's Super League clash between Arsenal and Chelsea last Sunday, she voiced support to women in the industry.

She said: "Just before we say goodbye, to all the women in football, in front of the camera, behind it, the players on the pitch, to everyone that attends games, keep being the role models that you continue to be,.

"To all those young girls that are told no you can't, football is a better place with us all in it."
