Benjamin Sesko insists he made the ‘better’ decision to join RB Leipzig this summer despite interest from Manchester United.
Manchester United news, exclusives and analysis
The 20-year-old was on United’s shortlist as Erik ten Hag made the signing of a new striker one of his priorities in the summer transfer window.
However, United did not follow up on their interest and instead opted to sign Rasmus Hojlund in a £72 million deal from Atalanta.
Sesko, meanwhile, completed his €24 million (£20.6m) move to RB Leipzig in the summer after the deal with Red Bull Salzburg was initially agreed last year.
And the Slovenia international is adamant that he made the right choice to join the Bundesliga.
When asked about United’s interest, Sesko told Transfermarkt: ‘The thing is, I wasn’t really involved in these kinds of conversations.
‘But I think it was better to come here.
‘It was very important for me to go to a place that plays a similar style of football.
‘I already knew what I had to do and didn’t have to go through a whole learning process again.’
Sesko also believes RB Leipzig are capable of challenging Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title.
‘Everything is on us. We have to perform. We have to show that we can win the games,’ Sesko said.
‘It’s obviously a lot of games. We just have to be 100 per cent or even more every single game because the games are every third or fourth day.
‘But as I said, we have a really good team, I think we have a big chance this year.’
