Presenter Kate Abdo has revealed she used to work for the baker Greggs prompting hilarious reactions from pundits Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards during CBS Sports’ Champions League coverage.
Abdo was hosting pitchside ahead of Newcastle’s first home game back in the Champions League after a 20-year absence, with the Magpies facing French champions PSG.
The focus shifted off the pitch during a discussion with fellow reporter Anita Jones, who said ‘You spoke about football being one of the cornerstones here, but there is another thing that Geordie’s love, it’s called Greggs.’
Jones revealed she had been handing out products produced by the British bakery chain to fans heading into St James’ Park for the match.
‘The most glamourous person I have ever seen selling Greggs,’ Carragher joked in response to a clip of Jones.

Abdo responded ‘I don’t know about that Jamie. Do you know, who also used to work for Greggs, the one and only, yes I did.
‘You used to work for Greggs,’ replied a stunned Carragher.
‘I wasn’t dripping in Louis Vuitton as much back then,’ said Abdo, But, yeah, it was my first job.’
A mock-up photo was then produced of Abdo wearing a typical Greggs uniform, prompting laughter from both Carragher and Richards, but an objection from the presenter.
‘My breasts have never been that big,’ Abdo said.
‘That’s because you had eaten all the pies,’ Carragher quipped in reply.
The hilarious exchange was followed by Jones handing out Greggs sausage rolls to members of the CBS team pitchside, before presenting Abdo with a company apron.
Carragher then pressed Abdo on why she left Greggs, with the presenter claiming she had been fired for getting her tongue pierced, leading to her being unable to speak to customers.
