Boehly's Chelsea revolution continues after £65m purchase for new stadium
Chelsea star Thiago Silva reportedly sometimes ‘crosses the line’ in training and has no problems telling Mauricio Pochettino or any of his previous bosses his opinion on their tactics. The veteran defender has arguably been the Blues’ most consistent performer since arriving in 2020, but recent actions have seen many left to ponder over his current situation at Stamford Bridge.
Silva, 39, has been a mainstay under Pochettino in defence with Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill alongside him. He has been outspoken on social media amid Chelsea’s disappointing start to the season that has left them 14th in the Premier League table following one win from their opening five games.
After their lacklustre home loss to Nottingham Forest, one Chelsea supporter wrote to Silva on Instagram and claimed that he was being “shoehorned” into the team. He then took the unusual step of responding and said: “If you look closely at the game, we are playing with a line of 4 my friend!”
He then risked the wrath of Chelsea fans on Tuesday by tagging the Champions League account on X (formerly known as Twitter) and sending them a crying emoji, with Chelsea not in the competition this year.

But behind the scenes, the centre-back is putting Pochettino in a tough position as The Telegraph have claimed that he isn’t afraid to oppose his head coaches and impose his own tactical knowledge on the team.
As one of Chelsea’s leaders, despite curiously not donning the armband this season, he has set high standards on the training pitch but sources have claimed that he can cross the line into sulking when he feels that his team-mates are not stepping up to the mark.

Silva signed a one-year extension to his rolling contract last season despite Chelsea’s struggles under Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and then Frank Lampard, while he was unimpressed with his colleagues’ dwindling performances towards the tail end of the season and was not afraid to show his frustration with them.
Chelsea’s defence has sat deeper than perhaps expected as a result of Silva’s lack of pace at 39, with the question set to be posed to Pochettino over whether the Blues could see an improvement with the Brazilian out of the team despite being the most experienced player in an extremely youthful squad.
Pochettino does have a host of options to call upon, as Colwill and Disasi could form a partnership in the heart of defence while Ben Chilwell could be reverted to left-back. Trevoh Chalobah is also waiting in the wings after failing to secure a summer move and Benoit Badiashile is working his way back from a long-term injury and should be available for selection in the near future, giving the Chelsea boss a selection dilemma and difficult call to make regarding Silva.
