Chelsea are hoping to inflict further misery on Liverpool in the transfer market after snatching Moises Caicedo from right under their noses this summer. The Blues are reportedly set to battle it out with Liverpool for Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Moscardo’s signature in January.
Chelsea will be confident they have a crucial advantage over their rivals in the South American market having recently brought in three starlets from across the North Atlantic Ocean. In 2023, the west Londoners completed the signings of Andrey Santos, Angelo Gabriel and Deivid Washington.
Now, Todd Boehly and Co are aiming to make Moscardo their next import. But they will have to fight off stiff competition to acquire his services. It isn’t just Liverpool that are said to be keen on bringing him in.
Arsenal are also keeping a close eye on Moscardo’s progress as they look to overhaul their midfield in January while Barcelona are mooted as a potential destination for the Corinthians star.
Chelsea had a £17.5million bid for Moscardo rejected by the Brazilian Serie A in the summer and are expected to go back in with an improved offer in the New Year. The youngster, who has played 14 times for the Corinthians first-team, is valued at around £26m.
Speaking after a recent 1-1 draw with Atletico Minerio earlier this month, Moscardo gave some insight into his next steps as rumours swirl. He said: “To tell you the truth, I have very little information. My father knows a few things, he prefers not to tell me so as not to influence my head too much, to end up taking a little bit of my focus here, he says: ‘Here your focus is on Corinthians’.

“Let’s wait for the season to end, there are still a few games to go, and we’ll see what we can do. Of course, there’s interest from various clubs, I’ve also heard about it, there was strong interest from Chelsea a few months ago, but if you stop to think about where I’m going now, at this moment, it’s not good. I want to help Corinthians now to get them out of this situation.”
The Brazilian domestic season wraps up before Christmas meaning Corinthians will likely be open to offers for their midfield starlet in January. Chelsea will be hoping their excellent South American network is enough to steal a march on other potential suitors.
