David Beckham hints at role in Man Utd takeover as he ‘knows right people’

David Beckham suggested he knows the “right people” to takeover Manchester United from the Glazer family.

The summer was dominated by rampant speculation suggesting the Red Devils were going to be bought. Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari royal Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani were the two favourites to buy the club.

However, United fans were left furious after the Glazer family chose not to sell, after reportedly putting a £10billion valuation on the club. As supporters of Erik ten Hag’s side continue their protestations against the Florida based venture capitalists, Beckham, who is a co-owner of MLS franchise Inter Miami, appeared to suggest he thinks he knows people who have what it takes to buy the club.

“We are one of the, if not the biggest club in the world. We want stability,” he said to Sky Sports. “'I think that's the most important thing.”

When asked about his thoughts on Sheikh Jasim’s bid, he said: 'We all have our favourites of who we feel needs to run the club and look after the club to take it back to where it belongs. In our eyes, in the fans eyes, we are number one.

“We want to be back at the top and I believe I know the right people to do that so we'll see!” United fans would have had even more reason to protest were it not for Scott McTominay’s dramatic, injury time brace against Brentford.

United trailed Thomas Frank’s side for 78 minutes, but the Scottish international bundled home a goal in the 93rd and 97th minute to secure the points in dramatic fashion. As well as pouring cold water on a burning hot atmosphere at Old Trafford, it would have also relieved pressure on an increasingly frustrated Ten Hag.

But while the Dutchman’s credentials have been recently questioned, Beckham thinks the club are in good hands with the former Ajax manager. “Let's see. He's a good coach,” Beckham said.

“It is a difficult time at the moment but there's a lot of noise around the club at the moment. It can't be easy for him. We all want that noise to go away. We all want a decision to be made for the club, for the fans, for the players and for the managers.”
