Diego Simeone is set to sign a new deal as manager of Atletico Madrid to extend his reign at the Spanish club.
The Argentinian boss took charge of the La Liga side in 2011 and has enjoyed a successful near 12-year stint as boss of the Madrid club.
It now appears that his reign is set to continue, according to Fabrizio Romano, who has stated that a new deal for the 53-year-old is close to being agreed.
Romano took to X to reveal the news on the Atletico coach by posting: ‘Diego Simeone, set to sign new deal at Atlético very soon. Verbal agreement in place, just waiting to get it sealed but all considered almost done.
‘After almost 12 years as Atléti coach, Simeone is prepared to accept the proposal and keep staying at the club.’

Simeone has led Atletico to two La Liga titles during his reign, the last coming in 2021
During his time in charge of the club, Simeone has led Atletico to the La Liga title in 2014 and 2021, as well as winning the Copa del Rey in 2013.
Simeone has also triumphed in Europe, twice bagging the Europa League for Atletico and leading them to two Champions League finals – losing both to Real Madrid.
He is a four-time winner of La Liga’s coach of the year and is currently La Liga’s longest serving boss and across Europe’s top five leagues.
Only Christian Streich’s reign at Bundesliga side Freiburg comes near Simeone’s time in charge, with the German also taking charge of the German club in 2011.
In the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp is the current longest serving boss, having taken over at Anfield in October 2015.
