Scotland v England: In pictures
England secured bragging rights over Scotland with a solid 3-1 win over their long-standing rivals Scotland at Hampden Park. Following their 1-1 draw with Ukraine, Gareth Southgate reshuffled his ranks and he may have unearthed several tactical gems which he must consider heading into future international breaks. Phil Foden opened the scoring for the Three Lions with a neat finish from close-range in the 33rd minute to break the deadlock before Jude Bellingham pounced on a defensive mistake by Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson two minutes before half-time. Harry Maguire came off of the bench to score an own goal in the 67th minute before his captain Harry Kane spared his blushes. Express Sport looks at how each England player fared against their arch-rivals…
Aaron Ramsdale – 6
The Arsenal goalkeeper had very little to do save-wise but showed composure when playing out from the back. Nothing he could do about the own goal.
Kyle Walker – 7
The right-back proved why Southgate reportedly talked him out of international retirement with a strong display at the back. A display that showcased how significant of a leader he is both on and off the pitch.
Lewis Dunk – 8
Impressive performance on his second-ever England start, making several important headers and fuelling attacks from deep with composure. Will prove difficult to look past when Southgate picks his squads going forward and deserved a clean sheet.

Marc Guehi – 6
Another 45 minutes for the Crystal Palace star and he looked unfazed by the challenge, keeping Che Adams under wraps well.
Kieran Trippier – 6
The Newcastle defender did what was required of him as a makeshift left-back, but his desire to have the ball on his preferred right foot did impact the way that England could play out from the back with their passing angles.
Declan Rice – 7
Back alongside Kalvin Phillips, Rice was released of some of his defensive duties to press higher up the pitch and try and make his impact in the Scotland half. The Arsenal midfielder’s composure and tough-tackling prevented his opponents from getting a true foothold in the game.
Kalvin Phillips – 7
Despite not featuring regularly for City, Phillips continues to show his worth on the international stage. The midfielder broke up play well and kept things ticking, allowing the more creative players to thrive.
Jude Bellingham – 8
Unsurprisingly another top performance by the Real Madrid playmaker. The midfielder carried the ball forward immaculately and may feel that he should have grabbed a brace following his solo effort late on. Bellingham’s assist for Kane’s goal was a moment of genius with a mazy dribble to play his captain through.

Phil Foden – 8
The Manchester City ace silenced his doubters with an impressive display, coming in from the right to influence play centrally. His opening goal was a moment of magic given the ferocity behind Walker’s cross/shot.
Harry Kane – 7
Kane performed well against Scotland and was key in the system, and aptly rewarded with a goal late on. The Bayern Munich star’s willingness to drop deep created plenty of space for his wingers, with his passing also shifting the momentum in different phases of play.
Marcus Rashford – 8
The Manchester United star was nothing short of sensational down the left in the opening 45 minutes, linking up well with Kane and Bellingham to cause Aaron Hickey numerous issues. The 25-year-old’s willingness to race in behind had the Scotland defence on tender hooks but he struggled to make the same impact in the second-half.
Substitutes
Harry Maguire – 5
The centre-back slowed the tempo of the match down significantly in the second-half with his lack of certainty in possession. Gave his doubters further ammunition with the own goal, when he should have led with his right foot to divert the ball out for a corner.
Bukayo Saka – 6.5
Came off of the bench late on but still made his mark with a few mazy runs.
Eberechi Eze – 6.5
Showed glimpses of promise and should have scored when racing through on goal after a sensational pass by Walker, but his strike was well-saved by Angus Gunn.
Callum Wilson – N/A
Conor Gallagher – N/A
