Wolves manager Gary O’Neil believes Matheus Nunes will remain at the club this summer, with Manchester City prepared to walk away from a deal for the midfielder.
The Premier League champions had a £47million bid turned down last week, with Wolves holding out for at least £60m.
As Mail Sport reported on Tuesday, it is understood City do not want to pay above £55m.
Nunes has refused to train and was subsequently left out of Wolves squad for their 5-0 thrashing of Blackpool in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
The Portugal international has made it clear he wants to join City, but O’Neil is confident the midfielder will be a Wolves player after Friday’s transfer deadline.

Wolves have turned down a £60million bid for the Portuguese from Manchester City
‘After the bid from Manchester City he decided it was best for him to not to be with the group,’ he told BBC Sport.
‘Club policy, and how we deal with things like that, is set in place.
‘As far as I’m aware there’s been no improved bid. Matheus Nunes is still our player, we have a long contract still with him and at this moment I fully expect him to be here come 2 September.
‘The next few days will be key of course and conversations will take place that will be private between me and Matheus and I’m sure the situation will be resolved.’
Guardiola has long been an admirer of Nunes, and has began preparations to bring in midfield reinforcements after talisman Kevin De Bruyne was sidelined earlier this month.
Lucas Paqueta had emerged on the Premier League champions’ radar, but his move from West Ham collapsed after it emerged he was the subject of an FA investigation regarding potential betting breaches.
Nunes joined Wolves from Sporting Lisbon just twelve months ago, with then-boss Bruno Lage signing him for a club-record £42m fee.
The Portugal international would go on to make 35 Premier League appearances during his maiden campaign as the East Midlands club battled back from a slump that saw them bottom heading into the World Cup break to finish 13th.

Meanwhile, Wolves are close to signing Paraguayan winger Enso Gonzalez from Club Libertad on a six-year contract.
The 18-year-old has flown to the UK to complete a £5m deal and is set to become the club’s latest signing as they look to continue to rebuild under Gary O’Neil.
Gonzalez would become Wolves’ fifth signing of the summer transfer window following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Boubacar Traore, Tom King and Matt Doherty.
He has made 38 appearances for Libertad, all coming last season, netting four times.
