Liverpool and Arsenal will push Man City for the title | Football Digest
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher admits he is concerned about Trent Alexander-Arnold coming up against Jeremy Doku when the Reds face Manchester City on Saturday. Carragher believes that the City winger could get the better of Alexander-Arnold with the England star potentially vacating space out wide.
Jurgen Klopp has used the Liverpool player as an inverted full-back for most of the last 12 months. Alexander-Arnold will often drift into midfield in an attempt to create an overload in the middle of the pitch.
But Carragher believes that could cause an issue due to the form of Doku, who has excelled at City since his summer switch from Rennes. The 21-year-old’s speed and movement might help him to get into spaces vacated by Alexander-Arnold.
Former defender Carragher is expecting a difficult game for Liverpool, predicting that the best they will get is a draw at the Etihad Stadium. “It will be tough – the best Liverpool will get is a draw. Liverpool’s record there is poor,” he told the Stick to Football Podcast.

“Liverpool have the best goalkeeper in the world and they’ll definitely need him. Liverpool’s defensive record has been really good this season and Virgil Van Dijk has been not too far away from his best.
“But there are still chinks in the armour with [Andy] Robertson out, Trent in that midfield [role] going back to full-back, and I’m thinking of Doku coming up against him. Also, Liverpool defensively in midfield still haven’t really got that top class number six, so it will be difficult. The best they’ll get is a draw.”
Arsenal icon Ian Wright disagrees with Carragher, predicting a rare Liverpool win at City. Klopp has not won at the Etihad since the early months of his Anfield reign in 2015.

Wright believes that the form of goalkeeper Alisson Becker, Liverpool’s midfield, and forward Mohamed Salah will be enough to beat Pep Guardiola’s side.
Asked for a prediction, the former striker said: “I’m going to go with Liverpool. Liverpool, defensively, should have conceded more goals by now but the keeper is amazing and their midfield with Salah are on amazing form – this will be a good one for Liverpool.”
