Lingard on the move again as Saudi Pro League club ‘doesn’t have room for him’

Jesse Lingard is on the move again as Steven Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq didn't have room for the former Manchester United star.

Lingard had been training with the side in the Middle East, but Saudi Pro League clubs are only allowed to have a maximum of eight overseas players in their squad. Al-Ettifaq currently have ten overseas players, and reports also suggested Lingard's demands were too high.

Gerrard's side already boast Demarai Grey and Jordan Henderson, as well as Scottish star Jack Hendry. However, Lingard won't be joining the trio under the Liverpool legend's stewardship.

Lingard has been without a club since he left Nottingham Forest over the summer. And he had been close to joining West Ham, also training with the Hammers.

However, West Ham pulled their interest in the midfielder when he jetted out to the Middle East to link up with Al-Ettifaq.

Lingard previously spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan at the London Stadium, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 16 matches. And before he turned out at West Ham, Lingard had been highly rated at the Red Devils.

Lingard spent 20 years with his boyhood side – but he eventually left in search of game time.

The Englishman last took part in a competitive game with a two minute cameo against United on 16 April. And he hasn't completed a full 90 minutes August 2022.
