Lionel Messi calls streamer ‘son of a b****’ as post-Ballon d’Or chat turns sour

Lionel Messi showed his feisty side after an incredibly awkward interview with a Twitch streamer at the Ballon d’Or ceremony.

The Inter Miami star was named as the best player in world football for a record breaking eighth time. He pipped Manchester City ace Erling Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe to the prize this year.

However, one of the more memorable moments of the evening was his rather awkward interview with Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos. It ended with the World Cup winner calling him a rather naughty word.

It’s understood Messi was rather unhappy the streamer had read out part of a text conversation between him and the now eight-time Ballon d’Or winner. During their chat, which was streamed to Llanos’ followers, Messi said: “I'm not going to answer you anymore because you make everything public and I don't like it.”

When Llanos tried to veer onto another topic, Messi replied: “The Ballon d’Or? Now you are changing the topic you son of a b****.” The 37-year-old forward did appear to have a slight smile on his face during the conversation, but he still seemed a little bit miffed at the same time.

Llanos also took to his social media to try and tell his followers there was no problem between him and the Barcelona legend. He shared the video again and tweeted: "The moment when he calls me a son of a b**** and then we start talking as if it were a serious interview, what was it?"

Aside from that, Messi was in high spirits at the ceremony in Paris. After he was given the prestigious award by David Beckham, he made a huge speech to everyone in the hall. "Thanks to everyone, especially my team-mates,” Messi said. “Thank you to everyone who voted for me. This Ballon d'Or is a great gift for all of Argentina. I don't want to forget Haaland or Mbappé, who had a great year, spectacular, and in the coming years they will win this award.

"The level [of competition] never decreases, I have been lucky to be here for many years. I want to provide a special mention for all those people who were happy that Argentina became world champions.

“Thanks also to all my family, my wife, my children, for being there in the worst moments, and they have helped me fulfil my dreams in football. Without you it would not have been possible.”
