Man Utd discuss two reasons to sack Ten Hag as ‘faith lost’ after Newcastle loss

Erik ten Hag reviews Newcastle defeat

Manchester United have laid out two worrying doubts about Erik ten Hag as the wheels fall off his Old Trafford rebuild amid a disastrous start to the season, according to reports. And Ten Hag is said to be losing the dressing room, which has historically spelt the end of United’s failed managers of old.

According to The Athletic, there are currently no plans to dismiss Ten Hag after just 18 months at the helm despite growing concerns over his credentials to steer the club away from their crisis.

However, there are said to be figures at Old Trafford who don’t share the confidence of others in the Dutchman, causing a split in the club’s hierarchy.

There is said to be a belief behind the scenes that Ten Hag hasn’t fully adapted to the Premier League’s demands after spending most of the last two decades coaching in the Netherlands.

And while Ten Hag is considered a good coach, doubts over whether he is the right personality to pull United out of the mud are rife.

The report adds that the 53-year-old is losing his players’ faith as his methods that were rewarding last season fail to harvest the same reward.

Ten Hag’s relentless intensity demands sparked significant improvement throughout his maiden campaign in England, losing just two home games and going 31 outings unbeaten at Old Trafford.

However, United have lost five of their 10 home games this season as part of eight defeats in 16 in total.

And they are now claimed to be viewed as a problem among his squad as frustrating injury problems continue to mount.

There is reportedly scepticism leaking out over whether he is capable of adjusting his approach to change the team’s direction, leading to a lack of belief in winning matches.

Ten Hag looks set to be safe for now while negotiations about Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s £1.3billion deal to buy 25 per cent of United ongoing.

The Athletic add that no major sporting decisions are expected before that deal, which will see INEOS inherit total control of the club’s football department, goes through.

Richard Arnold and John Murtough would have a significant say in Ten Hag’s future alongside Joel Glazer. However, both face uncertain futures under the incoming regime.

And the Glazers are said to be reluctant to disrupt the year-long process for crucial investment.
