Pochettino believes Chelsea are 'building something'
Mauricio Pochettino will have mixed feelings about the upcoming fortnight’s international break after this second win in the Premier League and third in all competitions. On the one hand positivity around the training ground will put a spring in steps for him and his backroom staff.
But on the other hand, the break up of his squad just when connections and bonds seem to be strengthening among the group could not come at a worse time.
Victory against Burnley, who have now lost all five of their league fixtures at home, was no silver bullet to eliminate the inconsistency that saw them win just one of their first six.
Yet the togetherness, effort and cohesion was clear to see as Chelsea came from behind to floor Vincent Kompany’s Clarets on a warm afternoon in Lancashire.
“In other games when we concede a goal the team lost a bit of confidence but today we follow our plan, we kept fighting and we started to play better,” said full-back Marc Cucurella.

“Adapting to the new manager takes time and we have a lot of new players and young players as well. You need to find our team-mates, because if you find your teammate you follow him and you are friends. I think this is the key.
“Today all the players who started and the ones who came off the bench ran and put everything in the pitch. If you follow them and become friends and when that happens you fight for them.”
Friendships take time to develop but wins are the accelerant needed and Chelsea are certainly beginning to click with a Carabao Cup win over Brighton and wins in the league now over Fulham and Burnley.
It may be a stretch to believe, as some of their fans chanted in the Burnley sunshine, that they are “going to win the league” but they can certainly start to look upwards rather than over their shoulder.

Chelsea had to recover from going behind after Wilson Odobert finished a sweeping right to left move across Burnley’s front line on 15 minutes.
But after an own goal, Ameen Al Dakhil deflecting Sterling’s cross with his hip over James Trafford just before half time, Chelsea simply blew their hosts away in a dominant second half.
Cole Palmer converted a penalty after Sterling was felled by Vitinho, Sterling added another after the hour and Nicolas Jackson completed the job with some fancy footwork and a fourth.
“We lost confidence in a lot of games but today we followed the game plan, kept building, kept fighting. The confidence is better after two wins in a row.
“Some players will go away now and we must try not to lose this feeling, this momentum. It’s only the start and if we continue like this we can have a really good season.”
For Burnley theirs looks like being long at this juncture but they can take heart from the fact they have faced a tough return to the Premier League with Manchester City, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Manchester United, Newcastle and Chelsea in their first eight games.
