Emile Smith Rowe could make Chelsea transfer after failing to meet Mikel Arteta demand
Mauricio Pochettino has stressed his ‘desperation’ for trophies at Chelsea after extending his trophy drought in English football to six years at Tottenham Hotspur. The Blues start their Carabao Cup campaign in the second round on Wednesday night, and Pochettino has his eyes on the prize.
AFC Wimbledon visit Stamford Bridge in the hope of pulling off one of the biggest upsets in the competition’s history.
But Pochettino isn’t taking the task of bringing silverware to west London lightly and is expected to field a strong team against the League Two outfit.
Pochettino spent more than half a decade in English football without lifting a single trophy before his Spurs sacking in 2019.
And while he broke that drought at PSG – winning three honours during his short stint – the desire to fill his trophy cabinet with prizes on British shores burns on.
Ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Wimbledon, Pochettino sent a rallying cry to his players, insisting he ‘wants to win everything’.
“I was desperate to win before, but my message was maybe not arriving in the best way,” Pochettino explained.

“Maybe I couldn’t translate it how I wanted because of my language. I was desperate before, and I am desperate now, too.
“I want to win everything. Every game, even friendly games. If we lose, we are in a s**t place.
“We achieved things. Maybe we didn’t lift trophies — in Paris, yes — Tottenham, no.
“But we built the training ground and stadium, and it was so important to be in the Champions League every season.
“We could win, but it was completely different. It is always important with experience to learn [how to communicate].
“My message has no doubt. It is to win, not complain about the circumstances. Win, win and win.”

His former club, Tottenham, suffered early disappointment to leave a sour note on an otherwise positive start to life under Ange Postecoglou.
Fulham dumped the Lilywhites out on penalties at Craven Cottage, leaving Postecoglou’s side with just the Premier League and FA Cup to play for this term.
But it was a routine Tuesday night for other top-flight sides, with AFC Bournemouth, Luton Town, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Wolves all progressing.
Chelsea haven’t won the Carabao Cup since 2015 when they beat Pochettino’s Tottenham 2-0.
The Argentine is determined – and desperate – to be the winning coach when the final takes place at Wembley Stadium in February.
