Chilwell picked up a hamstring problem in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup victory over Brighton in the latest injury blow for the Blues, who are already without several stars.
The west Londoners will be missing the England international left-back for a while, head coach Pochettino has revealed, although there is no timescale as of yet.
‘Bad news [on Chilwell],’ Pochettino said on Friday. ‘The doctor told me is it is a bad injury but we need to assess in the next few days.
‘It doesn’t look good. We are very sad about the news about Ben. It’s difficult to know [when he will return]. We need to assess in the next few days.
‘The doctor will tell us and the club will communicate. Yes [it’s the same leg as last season]. I think so. It’s the mechanism of the action. He was a little bit unlucky in the way he suffered the injury. It’s very sad because he was having a very good game.‘
Pochettino also provided updates on Reece James and Carney Chukwuemeka andclaimed that Noni Madueke has been struggling with an injury too – despite suggesting he was simply not picked for the Carabao Cup win over Brighton.
‘Maybe Carney [back for Monday] and Noni also after his injury for the national team,’ Pochettino added. ‘He is getting ready, he is working hard.
‘Hopefully these two players will be available. [Reece James] will not be back for Monday. Maybe the week after, we’ll see. We need to assess him but we will see.’
Chelsea travel to Fulham for a west London derby on Monday night, looking to turn their season around after a slow start.
