Manchester United has become a ‘graveyard for coaches and players’, Gary Neville claimed while showing sympathy towards the club’s manager Erik ten Hag.
Continuing to suffer from a bleak run of form, the Red Devils suffered a 3-2 defeat by Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday, having lost to Crystal Palace in the Premier League last weekend.
The successive defeats have subsequently piled pressure on Ten Hag, with a selection of United supporters questioning whether the Dutchman is the right man to lead their club back to the summit.
Neville, however, has admitted to feeling sorry for the United boss, claiming his old side has become a ‘graveyard’ for both managers and players.
‘I feel very sorry for the manager, I know a lot of people will say he’s got to do a lot better, but there are a lot of big problems at the club that managers have found over the last ten years,’ Neville told talkSPORT.

‘I think until those problems are solved we’ll still continue to see underperforming teams, underperforming players. It’s become a graveyard for coaches and players – it’s not too strong a term.
‘There are very few players that excel at Manchester United in this last ten years. They were all great players when they came to the club, they were all wanted by other clubs.
‘They won these players off of other clubs and then they end up coming to Manchester United and they end up not succeeding and not performing to their levels, why is that?
‘It’s because it’s not culturally correct to accept players in the way that it should do and we (United) need to get that right.’

It’s been an agonising run of form for Ten Hag and United, who are languishing in mid-table
The Red Devils now have the same loss ratio under Ten Hag as they did under Ralf Rangnick
Following their disappointing defeat by the Eagles at Old Trafford, Ten Hag now holds the same Premier League loss ratio as Ralf Rangnick, who took charge on an interim basis before his arrival in the summer of 2022.
Both with a loss ratio of 29 per cent in the league, Rangnick was beaten in seven of his 24 matches in charge of United, while Ten Hag has lost 13 of his first 45 games.
The ex-Ajax boss initially inspired hope in Manchester after leading the club to a third-place finish in the Premier League last campaign, but his side have since struggled and are languishing in mid-table, cut well adrift of the top four.
Manchester United will hope to return to winning ways on Saturday against Brentford, who thumped the Red Devils 4-0 during Ten Hag’s first few weeks in charge at Old Trafford last season.
