Newcastle Alan Shearer has ‘hangover incoming’ after Champions League triumph

Alan Shearer has admitted he’s in for a long night of celebrating after Newcastle’s demolition of Paris Saint-Germain in the club’s first home Champions League game in 20 years. Newcastle have waited since 2003 to host another Champions League match, back when Shearer was still playing for the club.

And Eddie Howe’s side rose to the occasion in front of an electric St James’ Park crowd as they scored four against Ligue 1 giants PSG. Miguel Almiron got the ball rolling for Newcastle with a well-taken effort inside the box before Dan Burns doubled the lead before the break.

Fellow Geordie Sean Longstaff helped push Newcastle closer to the dream result with a fine finish of his own at the start of the second half. A goal from Lucas Hernandez failed to dampen Newcastle’s spirits with Fabian Schar giving the home fans one more goal to cheer about with his long-range effort being the best of the bunch.

Shearer was in the stands watching on and he was seen cheering and joining in the celebrations in the stands as the final whistle was blown. TNT Sports pundits also noted that Shearer even looked emotional at one stage as the match was drawing to a close.

And the Newcastle icon has taken to social media to announce that his celebrations will go long into the night. He wrote on X: “As days and nights go that’s a f——— Belta! hangover coming!!! What a performance man.”
