Nick Pope was left rooted to the spot by a stunning Raheem Sterling free-kick during Newcastle and Chelsea’s Premier League clash.
A buoyant Chelsea headed to St James’ Park looking to bridge the four point gap between themselves and the Magpies. But it didn’t get off to the best of starts for Mauricio Pochettino’s side when Alexander Isak put the hosts ahead after 13 minutes.
However, it didn’t take long for Chelsea to hit back as Sterling showed why he should be part of Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 plans by scoring a sublime free-kick just 10 minutes later to level the scores.

In line with the edge of the D outside the 18 yard box, Sterling stepped up to the plate as he shuffled his feet before hitting a dipping effort over the Newcastle wall which whipped into the top corner, leaving Pope rooted to the spot.
Fans on social media couldn’t believe Sterling’s effort, with the winger not known for his dead ball ability, one fan on Twitter said: “That was sublime.” A second said: “He’s actually so good”. While a third added: “That is filthy”, with a fourth dubbing the effort a “wonder goal”.
Do you think Sterling should be in the next England squad? Let us know in the comments section.
Sterling’s strike is his fifth goal of the campaign and his second in as many games after he previously scored against former club Manchester City in the 4-4 draw last time out.
Despite having 82 England caps to his name and starring for Southgate at Euro 2020, Sterling was omitted from the England squad for the fifth squad in a row. He last featured for the Three Lions in the World Cup quarter-final against France last year.
Should he continue in his recent vein of form, the 28-year-old will make himself almost impossible to leave out for the Euros in Germany next summer.
