Phil Jones has launched the next phase of his career after leaving Manchester United.
Jones had endured an injury-hit few seasons, with his last competitive United appearance coming in the victory against Brentford in May 2022. He left Old Trafford as a player in the summer following the expiry of his contract, although he has retained links with the club as he looks to further his coaching experience.
The 31-year-old has not retired from playing but is using his time as a free agent to plan for the future by starting a sporting director course. As part of his development, Jones has also been observing the younger age groups at United.

“Great to begin the global football sport directorship course with the PFA business school, learning new things about the game, whilst also continuing to push ahead with my A licence and badges at the club that gave me so much. Excited to get started.”

Partly due to his hilarious range of facial expressions, Jones has become a maligned figure in recent years. However, he is also held in high esteem by many United fans.
Writing following his playing departure from the club at the start of June, he posted: “I want to express my thanks for the incredible love and support over the last week. I’ve known how special the United fans are, but this week has shown just how special.
"I hope you enjoy the FA Cup Final, I’ll be supporting the lads in the stands, backing them just as much as you.” Jones joined the Red Devils from Blackburn in 2011, making 229 appearances and scoring six goals. He also has 27 England caps.
