Pitch invader who mobbed Man City star Erling Haaland is ex-world champion boxer

A former ex-world champion boxer ran onto the pitch to celebrate with Erling Haaland after he scored against Sheffield United on Sunday (August 27).

Terry Flanagan, 34, is a retired British boxer who held the WBO lightweight title between 2015 and 2017 with a record of 36-2 – 14 via KOs, and he can now add celebrating with Haaland on his list of achievements.

The diehard Manchester City fan has previously appeared wearing a City shirt during various weigh-ins during his time as a boxer, and also held aloft his WBO belt at the Etihad Stadium before a game as a guest.

But Flanagan may have just lost his VIP treatment at City with The Sun reporting he was the pitch invader who hugged and seemed to kiss Haaland.

What looked a straightforward task for an all-conquering City side against Sheffield United turned out to be anything but.

Haaland had missed a penalty in the first half and frustrations were building in the Blues’ ranks before Jack Grealish picked out the record-breaking Norwegian at the back post who headed home.

And while there was little celebration from Haaland, Flanagan jumped the advertising boards and onto the back of Haaland.

The striker didn’t seem to be too fussed with Flanagan, despite him seemingly trying to kiss his neck, before he was taken away by security.

Flanagan became the first Englishman to win the WBO lightweight title after he stopped Jose Zepeda inside two rounds in Manchester.

He was then able to defend his title a further five times before vacating the title to move up to junior welterweight but lost via split decision against Maurice Hooker in 2018 for the vacant WBO light-welterweight title.

Flanagan would fight a further four times – winning three of them – before hanging up his gloves in 2019.
