Premier League to introduce ‘bodycams’ on players for this time this weekend

The Premier League is set to trial bodycams during Wolves' clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon.

One player from each team will be allowed to wear a bodycam during the warmup for the game, according to the Daily Mail, with IFAB laws forbidding the technology to be allowed during the actual clash.

"Finding new ways to bring our fans closer to the action on the pitch is a key focus for us," Premier League Head of Media Operations and Innovation, Rachael Nightingale, said.

"After the success of the bodycam trials at the Premier League Summer Series, we are looking forward to seeing what results this test will deliver for TNT and our audiences around the world."

Aston Villa and Newcastle trialed the technology over the summer, allowing fans to get a new perspective of the game with the technology. The camera is stitched to a GPS vest under the shirt, and a small hole is then cut in the jersey.

A wide angle view of the pitch is captured on the camera, and that is then cropped using AI auto-detection technology before it is uploaded. TNT Sports will be able to use the footage in the build-up to the clash.

"We are thrilled to partner with the Premier League to develop innovative access, taking viewers to places, and experiencing moments, they would not otherwise experience," Scott Young of Warner Bros. Discovery Sports, Europe, added.

"We are particularly excited for what opportunities this may present for sports broadcasting in the future and we thank the Premier League and both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur for their co-operation in facilitating this activity."
