Erik ten Hag previews Arsenal v Man Utd clash
Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has struck back at Erik ten Hag over claims that he has performed poorly in training. The former Borussia Dortmund man was left out of the squad entirely for Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal, with Ten Hag readily sharing that failing to meet his standards on the training pitch was the route of his decision.
Marcus Rashford and Antony started on the flanks for the Red Devils, with Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri providing alternative options from the bench. Sancho, who cost £73million in 2021 and banks a reported £350,000 a week, was not selected as part of the squad.
When quizzed on why, Ten Hag said after the game: “We didn’t select him based on training performance. You have to reach the level every day at Manchester United. That’s why in this game he wasn’t selected.”
Two hours after the final whistle, Sancho posted a response on X, writing: “Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that are completely untrue.

“I have conducted myself in training very well this week. I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!
“All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team. I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and grateful to do so which I know every week is a challenge. I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!”

Haaland admits Fulham ‘should be fuming’ after Man City goal as VAR called out[INTERVIEW]
Sancho has played only 77 minutes of Premier League football across the first four matches of the season, spread across three substitute appearances. The 23-year-old has broadly failed to live up to the hype since arriving at Old Trafford, despite having excelled in Dortmund.
It remains to be seen whether Ten Hag opts to take action in response to Sancho’s public statement. The Dutchman was already worked up after watching his side fall to a 3-1 defeat, with injury-time goals from Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus deciding the contest in Arsenal’s favour.
“The performance was right,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports. “We played a very good game but everything went against us. Then you don’t win the game. If we had a bit more luck, we would have won.
“[Garnacho] was not offside, [VAR looked at it from] the wrong angle. It was a penalty on [Rasmus] Hojlund. When we conceded the goal, Jonny Evans was fouled, it was so obvious. We have to accept it but I see the angle, and it was not offside. It feels a little bit nasty but you have to accept it.”
