Spanish Womens’ World Cup winner Jenni Hermoso was front and centre of GQ magazine after being named the outlet’s ‘woman of the year’.

Hermoso played a starring role in the WWC as Spain overcame England 1-0 in the final in Australia. Unfortunately, her impeccable performance became shrouded in a controversy, generated by former Spanish football chief Luis Rubiales planting a non consensual kiss on her lips after she collected her medal.

This triggered a huge media storm which eventually led to Rubiales resigning from his position in disgrace. Nearly three months after the saga, Hermoso posed for a powerful photo shoot with the iconic magazine, before opening up on how her life was changed by that kiss.

She sported a light brown, backless tank top which showed off the wide array of tattoos on her back. In a different photograph, Hermoso donned a white, long-sleeved bodysuit, while laying on a red armchair

The Spanish forward, who is now back playing with Mexican side Pachuca, admitted the saga, which also saw Rubiales receive a three-year ban from football related activity by world football’s governing body, began to get in the way of her football career. “For a while I forgot I was a footballer,” Hermoso said to GQ.

“But you go back to a training session, to the pitch, wearing your kit, and you try to give the best version of yourself again. Being a Taurus makes me see that I have to fight, but also to protect myself.

“If I want something, I go after it no matter how many times I fail and knock myself against the wall. It has helped me to achieve everything I have set out to achieve in the world of football.”

She also added: “At the beginning, it was hard to understand what was going on; the movement that was unleashed,” Hermoso added. “I'm grateful for the fact so many people were on my side, on our side. Actresses, footballers, some of our rivals at the World Cup, like the England team, who we beat in the final.

“It all gave me the strength to carry on and go through this for everyone.”
