A Sunderland star once ripped his shirt in a fight with Roy Keane – where he had the manager up against a wall.
Keane was in charge of the Black Cats from August 2006 to December 2008, when he was able to gain promotion to the Premier League. But alongside some success, his tenure involved a strict disciplinary policy which resulted in the occasional bust-up.
Football League journeyman Greg Halford, who played under Keane as a defender for one season, was no stranger to disagreements with the Irishman himself. But it was another player – Keane’s former Ireland team-mate Graham Kavanagh – who had the meatiest exchange with the Sunderland boss.

Talking on Undr The Cosh, Halford recalled being summoned to Keane’s office. But the at-the-time youngster instead stumbled upon Keane and Kavanagh having a full-blown scrimmage.
Halford explained: “One time, I was going into his office and Graham Kavanagh was in there before me. I’m sitting outside hearing all this shouting, tables moving and walls shaking. I was thinking ‘I don’t want to go in here next’.

“Kavs came out with a ripped shirt, sweating. I asked him ‘what the f*** happened?’ and he said ‘I had him [Keane] up against the wall and he was trying to rip my shirt off’.
“I was s****ing myself going in. He’s just coming out of a fight with Kavs – and he’s lost!”
Kavanagh signed a three-year deal with Keane’s Sunderland in August 2006, becoming one of his first signings. He played 14 games before being ruled out of the majority of the season with injuries.
Meanwhile, Halford, now 38, recently revealed how he got off on the wrong foot with Keane in their very first meeting after signing in 2007. Halford made the grievous mistake of asking the Manchester United legend and now Sky Sports pundit which other players he intended to sign and his ambitions for the season.
