Ten Hag sends frosty four-word message to Sancho after flying Man Utd display

Erik ten Hag issued a frosty message to Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho after watching his side blitz to a Carabao Cup win over Crystal Palace on Tuesday. Alejandro Garnacho was among the goalscorers at Old Trafford as United produced their best performance of the season yet.

Sancho was absent from Ten Hag’s squad for a fifth consecutive game as United started their Carabao Cup defence with a 3-0 triumph over Palace.

Casemiro and Anthony Martial added to Garnacho’s opener as the Red Devils comfortably progressed into the fourth round.

Ten Hag didn’t miss Sancho, who remains banished from all first-team activity until he apologises to the Dutchman for calling him a liar on social media at the start of September.

And he responded ‘it’s up to him’ when questioned about an update on whether the 23-year-old winger will soon return to the fray.

“I don’t talk about players who are not available,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports after full-time.

“I don’t know [whether Sancho deleting his Instagram account means anything]. It’s up to him. I said I don’t comment about players who are not available.”

Former United defender Steve Bruce was on pundit duty alongside Mark Chapman and Andros Townsend in the Sky Sports studio at Old Trafford.

He urged Sancho to swallow his pride and take the required steps to mend his relationship with Ten Hag so he could become a part of United’s improved performances.

Bruce said: “Look, the only way this is going to be resolved is if he goes to the manager and says ‘I apologise’, and then apologise to his teammates.

“He can’t go on social media and start criticising the coach. At the end of the day, he is the boss, and he makes the decisions. At the end of the day, there has to be a little bit of respect there.

“I would urge him to get in there, knock on the door and see if they can work things out because the kid is a talented player. We haven’t seen the best of him here, but we know he has really good ability.

“But he [Ten Hag] can’t have the issue now where there are rules for one and one for another. He has been like that since he walked through the door, and he won’t put up with that.”

Garnacho and Pellistri shone on the wings against Palace, while Marcus Rashford watched on as an unused substitute.

Sancho will likely be unavailable again when Palace return to M16 for a rematch in the Premier League this weekend. But it’s clear what steps must be taken if he is to reignite his United career.
