Ten Hag defends under-fire Onana ahead of Newcastle v Man Utd
Premier League action returns today, but plenty of work is ongoing in the background ahead of next month’s January transfer window. Manchester United and Arsenal are among the clubs at the centre of speculation as the English top-flight enters the hectic winter period.
United are linked with strengthening different areas as the club gears up for Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival once his £1.3billion deal for a 25 per cent stake is ratified.
But departures are more likely at Old Trafford. Donny van de Beek and Jadon Sancho are two of a handful of potential big-name departures.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are seemingly leading the heavyweight interest in Brentford striker Ivan Toney, with Chelsea and Tottenham also linked.
As for the latter, Ange Postecoglou is said to be eyeing centre-back reinforcements after losing Micky van de Ven through injury.
Manchester City and Liverpool appear to be Arsenal’s biggest title rivals and could also dip into the transfer market for welcome reinforcements midway through the campaign.

Man Utd not alone in Guirassy race
Manchester United are interested in triggering Serhou Guirassy’s £15million release clause in January, multiple reports claim.
But Erik ten Hag isn’t alone in wanting to lure the prolific Stuttgart striker to the Premier League.
According to 90min, United may be rivalled by Arsenal, Everton, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves for his signature.
Arsenal tipped for new Erling Haaland
Arsenal are being strongly linked with a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
And Gunners icon David Seaman believes he could have the same impact as Erling Haaland at Manchester City.
“I would imagine that Arteta would be looking at it [signing Ivan Toney in January],” Seaman told The Sports Daily.
“Especially with the injuries that Gabriel Jesus is suffering. Toney is good, he’s strong in the air, but he’s good with his feet as well. I’m comparing it to when Haaland came to Manchester City.
“People were asking why they needed a striker like that. They were already scoring the most goals in the league and winning the title without him, but then you see the impact he had.
“A big target man like him, who guarantees goals could certainly work at Arsenal.”
