Manchester United stand a better chance of winning the Europa League than the Champions League this season, according to a football club ranker.

The Red Devils’ torrid start to the campaign continued on Tuesday night with a 3-2 defeat to Galatasaray which saw them fall to the bottom of Group A after two matchdays.

Erik ten Hag’s side have now lost six of their 10 games this season and face an uphill battle to qualify for the round of 16 in a group that also contains Bayern Munich and Copenhagen.

United next face the Danish outfit in a double header that will decide their fate but European club ranker, Euro Club Index, reckon the Manchester side are better off falling into the Europa League if they have aspirations of continental success.

Their model, which calculates odds based on the actual standing and the match result probabilities for all remaining games, gives United a 1.2 percent chance of winning Europe’s premier competition for the fourth time.

Man United still have hope of progressing from this season’s group stage but topping the standings could already be beyond them following Tuesday night’s 3-2 defeat

Defending champions Man City lead the way with a 29.8 percent chance ahead of Real Madrid on 16.6 and Bayern Munich with 13 percent respectively.

In truth, Ten Hag’s side are not much better fancied in the Europa League but they do see a slight increase in backing to 3.6 percent.

Premier League rivals Liverpool are overwhelming favourites at 37.9 percent, while Bayern Leverkusen and Sporting Lisbon separate the England’s most successful clubs with 5.5 and 4.9 percent.

Last season’s Europa Conference League winners West Ham are the fifth favourites for the competition with a 3.4 percent chance.
