Wrexham’s League 2 promotion challenge predicted by supercomputer

Wrexham has a fighting chance at achieving back-to-back promotions, after a supercomputer predicted the remainder of the club’s English Football League season. The Welsh outfit won the National League last season to reach League Two, edging past Notts County with both teams registering a triple-digit points tally.

Both teams were promoted to the Football League, Notts Count via the playoffs, and both have had good starts in League Two and are second and third in the standing – which would mean a second consecutive promotion. Wrexham and Notts County are tied for 30 points each after 16 games and are five points behind top-of-the-table Stockport.

Teams are, however, hot on their heels, with second-place to ninth separated by just five points. A couple of horrid results in consecutive weekends could see Wrexham and/or Notts County tumble down the table.

According to a supercomputer compiled by Best Gambling Sites, via Goal, Notts County has more to worry about when it comes to missing out on a shot at promotion. They are predicted to finish the season in ninth, while Wrexham has been tipped to record a playoff place finish in fifth with 79 points.

That gives the Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney-owned club a shot at back-to-back promotions, a continuation of their rise up the English divisions. Stockport, Morecambe, and Mansfield Town are the three clubs that have been predicted to make up the top three automatic promotion spots.

Another promotion-fighting season will be good for the team’s hit show, “Welcome to Wrexham”, which has followed the two actors’ journey as owners of one of the world’s oldest football clubs. Despite the publicity, Reynolds and McElhenney have proven to be down-to-earth people, who care about Wrexham and its people’s livelihoods.

The acting duo has also stuck with coach Phil Parkinson since his 2021 hiring. “Every promotion, title or cup you win as a manager is hard, it is really tough,” said Parkinson at Football Writers’ Association (North) Managers’ Awards on November 6, via the BBC. “It is tight dividing lines all the time and you need really good people alongside you. With the glitz and the glamour of the Hollywood owners, that’s great, but Rob and Ryan are really genuine people.

“They have been so supportive to me and Steve Parkin. Not only financially if we need to get a player in but also moral support. Every time they come over or we’ve had a bad result – we got beat 5-0 at Stockport a few months ago – the first text I got was Rob McElhenney: ‘Phil, we are right behind you, we are right with you’, and that means as much as being supported financially.”
