This weekend will see Team Europe and Team USA battle it out for the chance to win the 44th iteration of the Ryder Cup.
Last time the two sides faced off was back in 2021, when Steve Stricker's Team USA triumphed over Padraig Harrington and Europe 19-9 at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin, handing the latter their biggest ever Ryder Cup defeat. That year, the likes of Collin Morikawa, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka led the way for the US in a star-studded team.
However, the competition that year was missing one of, if not the biggest name in golf, Tiger Woods, who has also missed out on selection for the 2023 Ryder Cup team, led by Zach Johnson too. Of course, given his injury woes in recent years, it is not a surprise Woods missed out on selection both times.

Back in 2018, Woods was a captain's pick, selected by Jim Furyk to try and help the USA defeat Team Europe out at Le Golf National in France. However, they went on to lose the three day event that year 17 1/2 – 10 1/2.
And despite having won 15 majors, Woods' storied career has seen him suffer his fair share of disappointment when the Ryder Cup comes around. In fact, of the eight times Woods has played for Team USA at the Ryder Cup, he has only helped them taste victory in the competition once, which came back all the way back in 1999 at the Country Club in Massachusetts.

That year, Team USA claimed a memorable 14 1/2 – 13 1/2 win over their European counterparts, having previously lost the last two Ryder Cup's in 1995 and 1997, the latter of which Woods also played in. At that time, Woods was already one his way to becoming one of golf's greats, having already won two majors in the form of the 1997 Masters, his first major, and the PGA Championship in 1999.
The now 47-year-old would go onto dominate the sport throughout the 2000s until injuries and controversies began to plague his career. However, despite the set-backs, Woods somehow in 2019, managed to claim his 15th major title producing an incredible -13 performance to win the Masters by one shot ahead of the chasing Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Zander Schauffele.

Two-years after his miraculous Masters success, the 15-time major winner survived a horror car crash that left him seriously injured and could have killed him. Woods managed to return to the sport a year later, competing at the 2022 Masters, but injuries have continued to plague him, with the icon needing to have surgery earlier this year on his ankle.
However, in positive news, the legendary golfer was spotted earlier this month hitting once again for the first time publicly, which could hint at a return to action for Woods, sooner rather than later.
