Aston Villa have finally received new shirts from sportswear manufacturer Castore after their men’s and women’s teams complained about the initial ones supplied earlier this season, according to reports.

The club urged Castore to provide their teams with new kit back in September as players became concerned that jerseys were becoming too heavy with sweat and it risked impairing performances.

Three months later, the new shirts have finally been delivered, although Castore are still yet to inform Villa of the technical tweaks that have been made to the kit, as reported by The Telegraph.

Castore had vowed to ‘address this issue as quickly as possible to meet the standards we expect’ when it was first raised in September, and they believe they have now delivered on their promise.

They believe it may have been caused by the BK8 sponsorship logo being emblazoned across the front of the shirts leading to an imbalance, but accepted full responsibility following Villa’s complaint.

Mail Sport revealed earlier this year, Villa and Castore were expected to end their multi-year partnership early following the ‘wet-look’ furore, and that has not changed despite Castore providing new shirts.

The shirts were a particular issue during the warmer summer months, but it is understood they have been less of a concern as the weather has cooled.

Villa are yet to use the new kit, and are not expected to in their two fixtures this week against Zrinjski Mostar and Brentford, but they could switch to the updated shirts after that if they are happy with the amended designs.

Having been concerned that the shirts provided by Castore in the summer could affect performances on the pitch, this certainly hasn’t been the case for the men’s side so far this season.

Unai Emery’s team beat Manchester City and Arsenal in the space of three days last week to move up to third in the table, just two points behind leaders Liverpool.

They have a 100 per cent win record at Villa Park this term, and have some fans dreaming of a title challenge.

The women’s team have been unable to match the men’s exploits to date, and find themselves down in 10th place in the WSL.

They have lost seven of their nine league matches, and sit just two points above bottom side West Ham.
