Chelsea ‘hours away from completing their next signing’ as Boehly trumps Barca

Chelsea could be just hours away from striking an agreement on another new signing, according to reports. Brazilian youngster Gabriel Moscardo is claimed to be closing in on a move to Stamford Bridge following interest from Barcelona.

Chelsea focused their efforts on signing exciting young talent in the summer transfer window. Mauricio Pochettino is renowned for working with youngsters and moulding them into top professionals.

Teenagers Angelo Gabriel and Deivid Washington both joined from Brazilian side Santos. Diego Moreira, 18, arrived from Benfica, while Romeo Lavia and Lesley Ugochukwu, both 19, were two more high-profile additions to Pochettino’s squad.

Chelsea have used the loan market to give some of their young stars more first-team opportunities this season. But it appears as though they are not finished yet in terms of adding more wonderkids to their ranks.

Interest in Moscardo emerged late in the summer window. Fabrizio Romano claimed that Chelsea had submitted an £18million bid for the 17-year-old Corinthians midfielder.

Corinthians were demanding a higher fee at the time and it appears as if they haven’t softened their stance. Spanish outlet Sport claims the Brazilian outfit want around £25.6m for Moscardo.

The report says Barcelona’s new sporting director Deco has been tracking Moscardo for several months. The former midfielder, who also played for Chelsea, attempted to seal a deal before he became more well-known.

However, Moscardo made his senior debut for Corinthians against Uruguayan outfit Liverpool F.C. in June. Sport claims his value has multiplied by 600 per cent in a matter of months.

Barca’s financial situation means they are now unable to secure the signing. Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is therefore set to benefit.

Sport claims Moscardo is one step away from completing a move to Stamford Bridge. It is said that a deal could be agreed in a matter of hours or days.

FIFA regulations state he cannot move abroad until the age of 18. He celebrates that milestone on the 28th of this month but Moscardo will remain at Corinthians on loan until June 2024 in order to gain further experience.

After coming off the bench on his debut, Moscardo has made six further appearances in the Brazilian Serie A, all as a starter. If he does complete a move to Chelsea, he will join a list of youngsters already out on loan from the Blues.

Andrey Santos will spend this season at Nottingham Forest, while Moreira has joined French side Lyon. Angelo has moved to Strasbourg, the club Boehly purchased earlier this year, while David Fofana has joined Union Berlin.
