Ex-Chelsea defender Wayne Bridge has revealed he once attempted to buy a Mars bar for £1,000 while appearing on ITV's 'I'm A Celebrity'.

Having hung up his boots back in 2014, former Premier League winner Bridge appeared on the hit ITV show two years later alongside the likes of Carol Vorderman, Joel Dommett and eventual winner Scarlett Moffatt.

And the now 43-year-old competed in challenges aplenty whilst down under, even putting his head in box with a snake slithering up right next to him. But one of the most difficult challenges Bridge and his campmates had to endure whilst in Australia was dealing with their rumbling stomachs.

The 12 celebrities had to compete in 'Bushtucker Trials', in an effort to win food and treats for the camp. However, one day, Bridge decided he'd had enough, prompting him to ask an ITV staffer if they would sell him their Mars bar for £1,000.

And the ex-Chelsea and England full-back explained all to former team-mate Peter Crouch and fellow host Chris Stark on 'That Peter Crouch Podcast'. Stark said: "You know when you were in the jungle? Why aren't you allowed to eat the… are you not encouraged to sort of 'Bear Grylls' the animals around you?"

"If you ever tried, you'd get stopped," replied Bridge. He continued: "And there's stuff like, if we ever won a lot, we'd try and keep food on the sly. Some people try sneaking food in, and you'd always get caught because there's cameras on 24/7. So you'd just get caught.

"There's even like, I think Conor McGregor was fighting and we were trying to get the result. And we ended up getting it in the end. I hope I don't get anyone in trouble here but you end up getting it in the end.

"But they never want to give you it. No one wants to give you anything because they'd get fired. I offered a grand for a Mars bar. Like seriously, mate just give me a Mars bar. You don't realise how hungry you are! If I showed you a picture of what I looked like, it's bad the amount of weight I lost."

Having entered the jungle back in 2016 on November 13, Bridge came agonisingly close to making the 'I'm A Celeb' final. However, just a day before the final in December, the former England international was eliminated alongside 'Homes Under the Hammer' presenter Martin Roberts.

Bridge finished up in fifth place, with ex-England hockey star Sam Quek coming fourth. Emmerdale's Adam Thomas came third while Masked Dancer presenter Joel Dommett came second, with Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt eventually being crowned 'Queen of the Jungle'.
