Liverpool icon John Aldridge was subject to a hilarious joke by his wife that left him unable to go to the pub for a week.
The former footballer took to social media to tell his 368,000 X followers how he'd been taken in by an elaborate prank by his wife involving a COVID-19 test. Posting a picture of the test, the text read: "So the wife told me 4 days ago I had covid… 'C means Covid John' been isolating all week, not been the pub. Well am out today! Never trust your wife."
Fans had a field day with the 65-year-old having to miss out on a week of pub visits as one fan wrote: "Pigeons across Liverpool were safe for a week" while another joked: "Profits at the Kingman will have taken a massive hit this week".

A third fan instead looked forward to Aldridge's return to the boozer ahead of Liverpool's away clash at Luton Town as they said: "All day in the pub then ready for the Liverpool game then!" The Premier League giants can go second in the table with a win at Kenilworth Road thanks to Arsenal's 1-0 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday (November 4).
Liverpool are on a two-match winning streak in the league that began with a 2-0 home victory against Everton in the first Merseyside derby of the season as Aldridge wasn't convinced by his former side's performance despite claiming all three points.

"The three points are all that matter in a derby game and Liverpool remains a red city, as I’m pretty sure it will be for a long time to come", he said in an interview. "Yet Klopp won’t need me to tell him that Liverpool need to play a lot better than this if they are to maintain a title challenge this season."
He wasn't convinced by Kostas Tsimikas' performance in the derby and said Liverpool were helped to victory by the first half sending off of Ashley Young. "Kostas Tsimikas had one of his worst games in a Liverpool jersey and had to be taken off. In the end, the match officials helped Liverpool over the line in this game and that’s not the way you want to win any football match," he added.
